Project Title: Hosting a gig.

Section 1- Context:
Throughout my time in college, I have learnt so many skills. Some of them being
performance, songwriting, event-management, production, and organisational skills. In
Project 1 ‘Hiding Under the Covers’ I had learnt how to work with new people within a
band and learning how to overcome problems within what I was playing. In project 2
‘What a Wonderful World’ I had learnt to not only work collaboratively to write a song but
then also learn new skills within producing. In project 3 ‘On the Road’ I had learnt about
the management side of live performance. This allowed me to learn about risk
assessments, financing and learning to deal with situations that may arise suddenly within
a performance. In project 4 ‘Skills Development’, we all worked independently to perform
our own solo pieces. This is when I had realised, I work better within a band setting
compared to a solo setting. In project 5 ‘FMP 1’, me and my band worked collaboratively
to pick a theme we are all confident on. We then chose to do music from movies as we
were able to have more creative freedom. This project also allowed me to explore essay
writing and learn how to write an annotated bibliography to a high standard. In project 6
‘the future’ it allowed me to research different universities and decide on what career
path that I would like to go down. Within this I had decided I wanted to go down the
stage/ tour manager pathway. In project 7 ‘Genres’ we worked as a class to host a gig.
Within this gig I had taken on the role as a manager. This allowed me to explore the job
role in more depth, help me to adapt my skills further for the future, and to allow me to
be able to respond to problems that may arise quickly. For my final plan for my FMP I will
be hosting my own gig and then doing research about things involved within hosting a gig
(e.g. Public liability, risk assessments and finances).

Section 2- Research:
For my research I will be looking at how photography can enhance the emotion of live
music and to do this I will be hosting my own gig and then using that to be able to take my
own photos.
For my research I will be looking at everything needed for a gig to run smoothly. For
example, health and safety, risk assessments and Financing. Doing this research will allow
me to successfully run a gig which be my outcome of my project.
For my primary research I will make a form asking people who will be performing if they
would rather have a gig within the afternoon or the evening. This will help me to decide
when to book the gig for.
For my secondary research Throughout the project I will be doing a blog including updates
and research throughout for example I will be researching on why public reliability is
important and why we need it.

Section 3- Problem Solving:
Within my project many problems may arise. The first one being not being able to find a venue outside college. To solve this, I will be able to ask about using the college playhouse for the gig.
Another problem is not having enough people within my class to perform meaning not being able to have enough people to sell tickets to. To solve this problem, I will ask people within other classes if they would like to perform within the gig to ensure we can get numbers within the audience up.
The final problem that may arise is not being able to accuatley complete my planning documents (e.g. risk assesmets, running order or financing).

Section 4- Planning and Production:
For my planning and production, I will have a timetable listing everything I will be doing within the weeks following up to the gig. This will include communication within the class and other classes, any planning of the gig, and any research I will be doing to do with everything I need to do for the gig to run smoothly and safely.
For the first two weeks I will be looking booking the gig and finalising details about it but I will be doing my research on health and safety, completing my risk assessments as this is a main priority, and then researching on public liability and how it is important to have when running a gig. For the third week I will be looking at all the financing side of the gig and getting rough estimate on how much it would cost to run a gig. For the next two weeks after this I will be confirming running orders and other aspects such as timings throughout the gig, intervals and the start and end time of the gig. For the two weeks after that I will be doing research on promoting and trying to promote the gig in as many ways as I can. In the eighth week I will be confirming with everyone who is performing that their set times are ok, and asking what equipment is needed and if they would like any specific lighting. In the ninth week I will have a meeting with Adam and discussing all the details about the show. For example, running order, equipment, intervals, lighting and soundcheck running orders, and then if I will make sure that things like refreshments are ready for the interval. Then in the final week will also be when I am holding the gig so I will be making sure if any equipment is ready, making sure the running order is 100% accurate and that everyone has a copy of the running order and that there is an accurate plan of the day so everything can run smoothly.

Section 5- Practical Skills:
For my practical skills I will have to learn how to use a camera. This means I will have to not only use my research to figure out settings, but I will also have to learn techniques I can use when taking photos and what angles do and don't work. I will also have to learn to be able to use the correct lenses for the correct moment. I can use band practice sessions to practice working with these different light settings and different angles. I will also have to learn how to use different Software to see what I feel most comfortable with and what I feel like helps enhance my photos emotions the best that I can possibly get it to be.
Section 6- Evaluation and Reflection:
For my reflection, I will be doing weekly blogs throughout my project, talking about everything I will be doing following up till the gig. With this I will be able to talk about how my week went on, did I get everything I said I was going to do in my timetable, and then finally how can I improve for the following week. For my evaluation, I will be going off how smoothly the gig ran throughout the day and if any problems arise will, I handle them well? I will also be going of how accurate my planning documents are (for example my risk assessments and plan of the day).

Section 7- Presentation:
For my presentation of the gig, I will show the planning process, documents and anything that I may use to help with everything for behind-the-scenes side and then the final outcomes of the gig. I will also show my research on things like risk assessments, health and safety, and promoting. All of this research will be shown within a blog where I will go into detail about how I done everything for the gig. I will also show all my planning documents including my plan of the day and financing.
