Outline of Project:

What is your project?

For my project I will be hosting my own gig, and I will be doing research throughout the project on things like public liability and why it is important when hosting a gig. I will also be doing research on things like health and safety (including a risk assessment) and what ways I can successfully promote a gig.

What influenced your decision to undertake this project?

The thing that influenced me the most for my project was being able to have the experience as a manager in past projects and wanting to become an event manager within the future.

Project

For my project I am hosting my gig and then I am going to do research on all the things needed to host the gig. For example, I will be doing research on risk assessments and then creating my own one based on the venue I have chosen to host my gig at.

Person/Organisation

Glastonbury Festival uses many different strategies to help market the festival these include, utilising the Three Horizon Framework for growth (these target core activities, youth demographics and embracing risky possibilities), Strategic positioning is also crucial for the festivals success by capitalising on external opportunities, Digital and social media marketing are key tools for generating excitement, enhancing engagement, and driving ticket sales, and finally experiential marketing is central to the festivals success, creating a unique and immersive that enhances brand association.

How does this project relate to your own?

This relates to my own project as I am hosting a gig, and I will need to use digital marketing to help promote my gig. I will also

What are the similarities between the two projects?

I will be using digital and social media as key tools to help promote my gig and also enhance ticket sales. I will also be taking small risks throughout the planning process to see what will and will not work for the gig.

What are the main differences?

The main difference between Glastonbury and my gig is not only where both events are located but also because Glastonbury has a much bigger following due to it having a bigger following and also is a well-known event so the demand for tickets is higher.

What techniques could be taken from the project to be used in your own.

Some techniques that can be used within my project are how they use social media to engage the target audience into making it an interactive experience for them.

What are the skills used in the project you are researching?

The skills I will be researching is the promotion of Glastonbury and how I can apply that to my gig promotion.

What techniques did you learn that you had not thought of before?

Having the promotion process of the gig be interactive for everyone who may be interested in going to the gig.

How successful was the researched project?

The project I had researched was really successful.

If successful, what were the main factors?

The main factors were that I found more ways to manage my gig even if it isn’t as big of an event as Glastonbury. I have also found a way to improve how I can promote the gig so it can allow the audience to be able to interact with it too.

SWOT Analysis:

Analysis Objectives:

During this analysis I will identify what my strengths and weaknesses are that may end up affecting how smoothly the planning process of my gig may be. I will also be able to talk about any opportunities I have had in the past.

Internal Factors:

Strengths:

  • One of my strengths is that I have skills in writing risk assessments and figuring out finances for gigs. This will allow me to be able to do these without struggling as much.

  • I am hard-working and very organised with my course work which will make writing all my documents a lot easier. This will allow me to have a schedule of what I need to do and work out a time frame for each document.

  • I am a very good problem solver. This is a good strength to have when managing a gig as things may suddenly arise which I will have to figure out.

Weaknesses:

  • One of my weaknesses is that I am not the best at being a leader, this is due to not always being able to communicate properly. This is a big issue as this is something that plays a big role in managing a gig.

  • Even though I am very organised I do get distracted very easily so this is something I will have to improve on as it can then affect me being organised.

  • My last weakness is that I doubt myself a lot causing me to not take a lot of risks. This is a weakness because in management you sometimes need to take these risks to help overcome certain issues.

External Factors:

Opportunities:

  • During my time in college, I have had many opportunities with managing gigs throughout college. The first one being in the ‘on the road’ project I had taken on the role as a manager, and I had not only started to develop my leadership skills, but I also learnt how to write an accurate risk assessment and how to estimate finances, this means that I can apply these skills into my project. Another opportunity I have had is in the ‘genres’ project I had also took on the role as a manager and this allowed me to get to experience more within it such as looking for people to perform through auditions, time managing the night, promoting the gig, making a plan of the day and also helping with the layout of seating for everyone attending.

  • I have been doing work on my documents outside of college so I can ensure that I am keeping track with my timetable. This has also allowed me to get ahead with my work which is relieving stress from my course work.

Threats:

  • Allowing myself to keep getting distracted will prevent me from improving myself as I will just keep falling more and more behind which can then prevent me not only meeting deadlines but also me getting the highest quality performance out of the gig.

  • Another this that will keep me from improving is not taking risks and not stepping out of my comfort zone. This is because I will try and play everything safe and then if a problem arises, I will be too scared to take a risk which could influence the gig overall.

  • One thing that might limit my opportunities is not being able to run the gig the same way as I have in the past. This is because of there not being multiple managers but also not hosting a gig in the same venue meaning that certain this will have to be different for me (for example finances and risk assessments) causing me to because stuck on them.

Evaluation of Objectives:

By doing this analysis I have learnt that my biggest weakness is being afraid to take risks and also step out of my comfort zone. This will then have an effect on my ability to be able to problem solve in last minute situations causing the overall gig process to potentially fall. I have also learnt that another weakness of mine is I am not the best at being a leader within a big group. I will have to work on this as it will majorly affect how I run the gig and could affect how organised the day is and how smoothly the gig will run.
